Butte Creek
Butte Creek, which was historically known as Pott’s
Creek, originates in the Sierra Prietas to the south of Thumb Butte.
From there it flows in an easterly direction until reaching Miller
Creek at Grove Ave. in Prescott. Hiking on the Butte Creek Trail is
available at the upper reaches of Butte Creek in the Prescott National
Forest. Stricklin Park, 5 acres of preserved forest, managed by the
Prescott Audubon Society, is also found along Butte Creek. This park
is available to pedestrian and equestrian traffic only. At the lower
end of Butte Creek Prescott College students have engaged in restoration
work at Garden St. Historically Garden St. crossed the creek, but
in 1996 students worked with the City of Prescott to close this crossing.
Since that time a number of revegetation projects have been undertaken
there.
