Granite Creek Downtown
Fast becoming known as the Prescott Greenways, Granite Creek Downtown
provides many opportunities for a stroll beneath the shade of cottonwood
and willow trees. Prescott Creeks’s first project back in the
1980’s was to establish the trail between Goodwin and Gurley
Streets in the heart of downtown Prescott. In addition to the trail
along Granite Creek there are two parks: Granite Creek Park and West
Granite Creek Park. Granite Creek Park features towering cottonwood
trees, lawns, a Ramada, picnicking, playgrounds and a trail along
Granite Creek, while West Granite Creek Park has retained more of
its “wild” character. From West Granite Creek Park visitors
can follow trails upstream to the south along Granite Creek or upstream
to the west along Miller Creek.
Directions
Granite Creek Trail: At the north end, trail is accessible from Gurley
St. at The Dinner Bell Café. From the south, just drop down
the steps next to the Granite Creek Café on Goodwin St.
Granite Creek Park: The main entrance for this park is from 6th
St. (running parallel to Montezuma St. on its eastern side), or
it can be accessed from the Depot shopping center at Sheldon &
Montezuma Streets.
West Granite Creek Park: To get to this park visitors can follow
the Granite Creek Trail from the main park, or jump on the Neighborhood
Connector Trail just to the north of the Suzie Q restaurant at the
end of Sheldon St. All of the businesses mentioned are very friendly
to creek visitors, so if you stop in (which we recommend) be sure
to tell them we sent you!
