Fundraising Information & Updates
Community supported events, grants & programs
that help Prescott Creeks accomplish its mission
Granite Creek Watershed - Water Quality Improvement & Monitoring Program
a proposal to the
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality
was funded in March of 2006.
At the end of 2004, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gave Granite Creek and Watson Lake a failing grade for water quality. Rather than viewing this declaration as a desperate problem, Prescott Creeks views it as an opportunity to work with the State and Federal Government to make needed improvements. Early in the year, the Prescott Creeks Board of Directors established a Water Quality Monitoring Committee to direct water quality monitoring of our nine creeks, and to coordinate improvement efforts. Funding for this grant proposal will:
-
Redesign and reconstruction of a storm water runoff basin to function properly,
-
Stencil storm drains with a message to educate the public about storm drain function,
-
Develop Best Management Practices for Small Farm/Ranch owners in the watershed, present them with an educational brochure, as well as project and funding ideas,
-
Monitor metals and bacteria to assess water quality improvements from these projects.

| 9th Annual Beer
Tasting & Raffle
On Friday November 22nd, approximately 150 creek-supporters
from all over Prescott and Central Arizona descended on
the Smoki Museum for the express purposes of tasting over
60 different types of beer and supporting the local non-profit
organization Prescott Creeks Preservation Association.
For the ninth year in a row Alfie and C.C. Ware of the
Liquor Barn, and Alliance Beverage Distributing Company
have sponsored this event. Unlike many fund-raising events,
this one benefits a different non-profit each year.
In addition to the beer tasting, the event featured a
raffle with items ranging from beer signs to creek-related
merchandise to several airplane flights around the Upper
Granite Creek Watershed (The Prescott Basin). As the guests
sipped
their beer, they also had the opportunity to learn more
about creeks and why they are important to Prescott, the
local wildlife and the community in general.
Prescott Creeks has a long and rich history in the Prescott
community. They manage Watson Woods Riparian Preserve
(in partnership with the City of Prescott) and their Prescott
CreekWatch Network provides opportunities for neighborhood
groups to preserve, restore and celebrate their nearby
creeks. Just this year the organization partnered with
the Open Space Alliance and the Trails and Open Space
Division of the City to start monitoring the health of
the Upper Granite Creek Watershed.
Thank you to all the beer-drinkers in Prescott!!
Special thanks go out to all who helped produce the event,
especially C.C., Alfie & Jon!
