Watson Woods Riparian Preserve

Management

(Excerpt from Watson Woods Comprehensive Plan 1996)

Management Plan Goal

The goal of this plan is to develop management guidelines for the overall function of Watson Woods Riparian Preserve in regard to its interaction with the public and internal Preserve operations.

Management Philosophy

This management plan provides for operating the Preserve with “adaptive management philosophy” recognizing that the information provided by the various Preserve programs will affect management decisions over time. How the Management Plan Relates to the Rest of the Comprehensive Plan The Management component of the Comprehensive Plan is intended to establish and describe processes for managing operational activities of the Preserve infrastructure, as well as actively tying together other Preserve Programs.

  1. Inventory and Monitoring: Data generated by the Inventory and Monitoring Plan will be used to direct visitor use, establish trail systems, and assess impacts to the physical and biological resources on the Preserve.
  2. Restoration: Managers will coordinate and secure funding for restoration projects. Informational signs and restrictive fencing will be developed for sensitive restoration areas.
  3. Environmental Education: Environmental Education at the Preserve will teach visitors about general and specific management objectives being employed. The Community Outreach Program will serve as a conduit for disseminating information about the Preserve and help generate volunteers to assist in accomplishing management objectives.
